Newton Et Cetera Shop is a Christian resource for meeting human need by raising money for Mennonite Central Committee through the sale of donated items, providing quality, affordable, recycled merchandise for the community, and encouraging stewardship and recycling.

2012 Annual Report

Giving to Mennonite Central Committee:
$164,635 (25% increase over 2011 giving; 2011 giving totaled $132,000)
Local Outreach – Community giving equaled around $1,700, including things like:
- Clothing vouchers for Harvey County Homeless Shelter and Harvey County Domestic Violence Shelter residents, Substance Abuse Center of Kansas clients, Families referred by USD 373 social workers, and families needing disaster relief after house fires—referred by local churches
- High quality bikes for select Harvey County Homeless Shelter residents, Mirror, Inc. clients and Harvey County Community Corrections probationers
- Newborn gift packages distributed to families with new babies at Newton Medical Center
- Books and medical supplies to Health Ministries Clinic, as well as to medical professionals providing short-term medical assistance internationally
- Eye glasses donated to the Lion’s Club, distributed to low-income patients locally
- $1,000 to Damascus Road for local anti-racism analysis training
Newton Et Cetera Shop designated over $17,000 of its proceeds for local community organizations whose operations and purposes are consistent with MCC. This money will be distributed in 2013. Click here for grant application.

2012 Renovation Report:
The store closed four weeks, from mid January to mid-February, during which time, the following features were installed: A/C & heating duct work, dropped & insulated ceiling, fluorescent lighting, feature lighting, ceiling mounted display rods and carpet. The store also closed unexpectedly for three days in July for a total A/C and furnace replacement. Significant hail damage, discovered during the A/C installation prompted a total replacement in September. Costs totaled $139,800 and were paid for in full.
Other noteworthy figures & events from 2012:
- Net Sales: $509,720 (7% increase over 2011)
- Clothing, Shoe & Linen Recycling: MCC generates approximately $52,000 from recyclables
- Open Late Launch: June 15; extended donation hours to 7 PM and shopping hours to 7:30 PM
- Management Changes: Jaime Cázares promoted to Assistant Manager in June; Leia Lawrence submits resignation from General Manager position in October, final day February 2013
